Merag to Valbiska, the way back

The timetable is not a mirror

The ferry works a rotation, so a departure from Merag is followed about 45 min later by the matching departure from Valbiska. In high season Merag has sailings from 05:00 to 23:00; in low season the last one leaves at 22:30.

When the queue builds on this side

Traffic on this crossing has a direction to it. Mornings run heavily towards Cres and Lošinj, late afternoons run back towards Krk and the motorway. The queue at Merag is therefore at its longest between roughly 16:00 and 19:00 in July and August, when a day on the islands ends and everyone leaves at once.

Outside those hours Merag is usually calm. It is a small landing rather than a terminal, and the marshalling space is limited, so a long queue here is more visible than the same number of cars at Valbiska.

Leaving enough time before a flight

Rijeka Airport sits on Krk itself, at Omišalj, roughly 50 km north of Valbiska on the D102. That makes the island convenient for a flight home, but it puts an unreservable ferry between you and the check-in desk.

Allow for missing one sailing. In high season that is a wait of about 90 min in the middle of the day, and rather more in the evening.

What it costs
