Ferry from Valbiska to Merag

Line 332 connects Valbiska on Krk with Merag on Cres. Krk is joined to the mainland by a bridge, and that bridge has been free since 2020, so this is the only stretch of water between the motorway at Rijeka and the islands of Cres and Lošinj. It carries close to half a million vehicles a year.

You cannot reserve a departure

This is the part most sources mention once and then ignore. Jadrolinija states it plainly on the route page: a ticket bought for this line is valid for any departure on the date printed on it. There is no seat, no vehicle slot and no booking reference for a particular sailing.

What follows from that shapes the whole journey. Vehicles board in the order they arrive at the port. If more cars are waiting than the ferry can take, the rest wait for the next one. In summer Jadrolinija adds extra sailings when the line of cars grows long, but the principle does not change: the queue decides.

Planning this crossing therefore means planning your arrival at the port rather than picking a departure time.

Fares in 2026

The fare is per person and per vehicle, and the two add up. Port dues and VAT are included, and the price is identical in both directions, which is why there is no return ticket on this line.

One boundary catches people out. A motorhome of 4.90 m costs €34.40, while a car of 5.10 m costs €31.80. The category of the vehicle counts for more than its length, so a compact camper is charged above a long estate car.

Sailings per day

In high season, from 3 July to 30 September, there are 13 departures each way. The rest of the year there are 12, and three of those do not run on certain dates. The first boat leaves Valbiska at 05:45 and the last at 23:59.

The gaps are not even. Between 05:45 and 18:15 a ferry leaves Valbiska roughly every 90 min, then the evening thins out. Full departure times for both directions and both seasons are on the timetable page.

The bridge at Osor

If you are driving on to Lošinj, the ferry is only the first of two places you can be held up. The road from Cres to Lošinj crosses a swing bridge at Osor, and the port authority opens it for boats every day at 09:00 and 17:00. While it is open, the road is closed. Reports put the wait at 20 to 30 min, longer in summer when several boats are queued.

The bridge also carries a 20 t weight limit, so heavy vehicles cannot reach Lošinj by road at all.

Merag to Osor is 47 km, about 54 min of driving. That means a sailing arriving at Merag around 16:10 puts you at the bridge close to the moment it opens. The planner at the top of this page works that out for you.

Choosing between the two routes to Cres

Cres has a second ferry, from Brestova on the Istrian coast to Porozina at the north of the island. It is a shorter crossing at 20 min and usually quieter.

Which one suits you depends on where you start and where you are going. Coming down the motorway past Rijeka, Valbiska is the natural choice. Coming from Istria, Brestova is closer. For Mali Lošinj the distances differ sharply: 87 km from Porozina against 70 km from Merag. The comparison page sets both out side by side.
